Kicking off the project

We're going to be asking the owners of 377 and 393 Main Street in Greenfield to allow us to use their front spaces. Walkers on the sidewalks see a light go on in the first window. Cinderella cleans alone. Her stepmother and stepsisters make demands and move to exit as the window darkens. A few seconds later the next illuminates. Cinderella sits despondent, but her fairy godmother arrives. The story continues over five windows. The audience does not hear sound on the street. When the last window darkens, the first window illuminates, coordinated via text message by the internal directors.

Within each window, a hidden scene director awaits a text from the previous director. When the text arrives, the scene director turns up the lights. When the scene is complete, the scene director turns the lights down. The actors in each window can expect to do their scene for about 5 minutes, then wait in low light or around the edges of the area for 25 minutes. They can expect to do their scene four or five times during the evening.

This concept brings life to the dark, after-hours storefronts in Greenfield during the festival, both enhancing the excitement of both theatergoers and townspeople, and serving to bring attention to the businesses who host us via their windows. It will look compelling and beautiful as people wait for their selected show to start, or as they walk between shows.

Organization
In order to produce Cinderella Windows, we will get costumes, many of which are multiples, very simple lighting and possible projector, very minimal set and props; cast and directors; and most importantly, permission from area organizations to allow after-hours use. In return, we will promote the participating organizations as partners in Cinderella Windows in posters and advertising. We are working on funding via grant and donation.

Please contact me by Sept 30 at cinderella.windows@gmail.com to participate
